Chennai: 02 June, 2026: Apollo Proton Cancer Centre today announced the launch of the Comprehensive Voice, Airway, and Swallow Clinic (C-VASC), a post-treatment rehabilitation program for voice and neck cancers. This initiative gives aftercare support to individuals who have undergone head and neck cancer treatments and are having difficulty speaking, swallowing, or breathing. The clinic focuses on recovery and rehabilitation, confidence, and overall quality of life.
The launch comes at a time when the global healthcare community is preparing to observe National Cancer Survivors Day on June 7, highlighting the growing importance of survivorship care and the need to support patients beyond treatment and into long-term recovery.
India records 14 lakh new cancer cases, the majority cases are linked to tobacco, smoking, and chewing tobacco, particularly neck and head cancer. Many survivors of neck and head cancer face difficulty in chewing, speaking, and breathing, and there is still a lack of facilities and aftercare treatment information. Voice disorders are frequently ignored in India, but the fact that they can have a psychological effect and lead to social isolation. There are few integrated rehabilitation clinics that bring together ENT specialists, oncologists, speech therapists, swallowing experts, dietitians, and pulmonary rehabilitation under one roof.
The Apollo Proton Cancer Centre program strongly enforces the growing importance of post-cancer rehabilitation. Proton Care brings together multiple specialists under one roof to deliver comprehensive and patient-centered care, with a focus on
functional rehabilitation in addition to cancer treatment .Tobacco and smokeless tobacco products continue to contribute to the nationwide increase in oral and throat malignancies. The research and study report emphasizes the importance of treating this with extreme caution, which can lead to higher survival rates.
Proton Care is improving its rehabilitation-centered strategy for cancer treatment with the Comprehensive Voice, Airway, and Swallow Clinic (C-VASC). This initiative seeks to assist patients in recovering vital functions and enhancing their quality of life post-cancer treatment by merging therapeutic technologies with committed rehabilitation support..
Multidisciplinary Expertise & Specialized Care :C-VASC brings together a formidable team of specialists to provide a 360-degree recovery ecosystem:
Head & Neck Surgical Oncology: Focused on precision tumor removal with aggressive functional preservation.
Speech & Swallow Pathology: Experts dedicated to restoring the complex mechanics of human communication and nutrition.

Airway & Pulmonology Specialists: A dedicated unit ensuring survivors can breathe with confidence and avoid long-term airway compromise.
Advanced Functional Diagnostics: Utilizing Laryngeal Stroboscopy and FEES to monitor and treat muscle dysfunction in real-time.
Many survivors experience social isolation, loss of speech, and difficulty eating due to ongoing hoarseness or swallowing issues. These problems are often overlooked until they become severe. C-VASC addresses this crisis by integrating modern diagnostics and minimally invasive treatments, including Laryngeal Stroboscopy, Laser & Microflap Surgery, and Tracheoesophageal Voice Restoration. These efforts aim to restore a patient’s core ability to communicate and feed themselves.
By starting support at the time of diagnosis, the clinic ensures recovery care is more coordinated, patient-focused, and effective in improving long-term survival rates. C-VASC goes beyond cancer care, serving as a specialised centre for professional voice care. By using the same advanced laryngeal diagnostics and treatment methods in cancer recovery, Apollo has built a dedicated environment in South India to maintain vocal health and protect professional identities.
Speaking about the launch, Dr Sapna Nangia, Director- Breast & Head and Neck, Dept. of Radiation Oncology, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre said, “Through C-VASC, Apollo Proton Cancer care is further strengthening the city’s growing role in
rehabilitation-focused cancer innovation. Cancer recovery is not just about surviving; for many patients, losing the ability to speak, swallow, or communicate can greatly affect their confidence, relationships, mental health, and overall quality of life. With this initiative, we are introducing a rehabilitation-focused model that emphasizes functional recovery alongside cancer treatment, helping patients regain independence and return to normal life with dignity.”
Dr Naveen Hedne, Senior Consultant & Head and Neck, Surgical Oncology, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, further added “With C-VASC, we are combining technology, expertise, and teamwork to create one of India’s most extensive voice and swallow rehabilitation systems. As India’s cancer burden is expected to rise significantly in the coming decade, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre’s latest initiative marks an important change in healthcare, where success is no longer just about defeating disease but about restoring the ability to live fully again.”
Mr. Karan Puri, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Tharamani & Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Teynampet mentioned, “People are aware of cancers, but what happens after an individual gets the cancer is what really counts. We believe that awareness is not about saving lives, but about how an individual survives after cancer treatment. The voice clinic is a key step toward patient critical healing through an integrated approach and enhanced quality of life for survivors. The need for aftercare emphasizes the growing importance of voice clinics.
Catholic Priest (Patient 1), mentioned, “After recovering from a stroke and a serious head injury, I was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer. As a CatholicAs a priest, my voice is central to my ministry and daily life. The doctors and medical team at Apollo supported me throughout my treatment with skill and compassion. Because it was detected early, my recovery went well. I urge everyone to get screened promptly, early detection can make a real difference in treatment and outcomes. Today I am healthy, doing well, and deeply grateful for the care and encouragement I received.
Professional Singer (Patient 2), “My voice is my identity; being diagnosed with a vocal polyp was one of the hardest moments of my life. I had nearly 14 performance commitments at the time and feared I might never sing the same way again. The Voice Clinic team, led by Dr. Naveen, guided and motivated me through treatment, strict voice rest, and recovery. I followed their instructions carefully, especially the post-surgery voice rest. Today my voice is as strong as before the polyp, and I’ve returned to performing with confidence.”
As part of Apollo Proton Cancer Centre’s commitment to functional preservation in cancer care, C-VASC incorporates advanced Proton Therapy–based and concurrent
chemoradiation treatment approaches for cancers of the larynx and pharynx. Designed to maximize tumor control while reducing damage to surrounding healthy tissues, these organ preservation strategies help safeguard speech, swallowing, and airway functions, enabling patients to return to daily life with greater confidence and quality of life.
